| BENZOIC ACID : Technical Grade |
DSM SPECIAL PRODUCTS is part of the Business group of DSM FINE CHEMICALS located at the world’s number one seaport ROTTERDAM, Netherlands. As the largest toluene Oxidation Plant in the World, DSM produce over 200000 M. tons Benzoic Acid per year.
The main application is as a raw material for the production of Phenol, Benzoyl chloride, Benzoate Plasticizers, Propiophenone, Caprolactam and Photo-initiators. Important derivates are Benzoic Acid salts such as Sodium, potassium, or calcium benzoate.
Benzoic Acid is an additive in various alkyd resin coatings to improve gloss, adhesion, hardness and chemical resistance, a terminator for chain propagation in alkyd resins and promotes crystallinity in the final product. It is an ingredient in water based coatings to get paper free from pinholes and speck formation. To improve finish in synthetic polyester fibre. Incorporation of Benzoic Acid in HDPE filament and thermoplastic elastomers is done to obtain high strength filaments for fishing nets, sportshoes, umbrellas etc. It is used as a vulcanization retardant in rubber.
In medical world application of benzoic acid are mainly external. It is applied in dermatology as an antiseptic stimulant and irritant or combined with salicylic acid in the treatment of ringworm of the scalp and other skin diseases.
Other applications are as a down - hole drilling mud additive where it functions as a temporary plugging agent in subterranean formations or as an additive in cooling liquids. |
